Cut the Talent Nonsense

In a function already infamous for its unsurpassed fluffiness, nothing comes more fluffy than Talent Management.

No one knows what it is, but psychometric tests identify it, training develops it and compensation programmes reward it. The very existence of companies, it seems, depends upon it.

Cut the Talent Nonsense suggests that the hype has lost sight of the core goals of People Development. It argues that pursuing professional competence for all and creating a bench trained to take on the company’s future challenges will produce more effective organisations than seeking out the Holy Grail of “Talent”.
